Unleash Your Inner Pastry Chef: The Power of KitchenAid Stand Mixers

The Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is a must-have appliance for any serious home baker. With its powerful motor and wide range of attachments, it can handle everything from mixing dough to whipping cream. Its sturdy metal construction ensures durability, while the sleek design adds a touch of elegance to any kitchen.

When it comes to choosing between a tilt head or bowl lift design for a stand mixer, there are a few factors to consider. Tilt head mixers are generally more compact and easier to store, making them a good option for those with limited counter space. They also allow for easier access to the mixing bowl and easier attachment swapping. However, bowl lift mixers tend to be more powerful and can handle larger batches of dough or heavy ingredients. They are also more stable during use and can be a better choice for commercial kitchens. Ultimately, the choice comes down to personal preference and intended use. Consider your needs and space constraints before making a decision.

Tilt Head Models: Pros and Cons

A tilt head KitchenAid stand mixer is a popular choice for home bakers due to its versatility and durability. One of the main advantages of this type of mixer is its ease of use - the tilt head design allows for easy access to the mixing bowl, making it simple to add ingredients or scrape down the sides of the bowl. Additionally, the mixer's range of speed settings allows for precise control over the mixing process, ensuring consistent results every time.

However, one potential drawback of a tilt head KitchenAid stand mixer is its weight. These mixers can be quite heavy, making them difficult to move or store if you have limited counter space. Additionally, some users find the tilt head design to be less stable than a bowl lift model, particularly when working with heavier doughs or batters. Another draw back is that even though the beater and whisk and dough hook are "dishwasher safe" do NOT put them in the dishwasher. The metal oxidizes and you'll end up scrubbing them with baking soda and water just to restore the finish.

Overall, a tilt head KitchenAid stand mixer is a versatile and reliable tool for any home baker. While there are some potential downsides to consider, the benefits of this type of mixer typically outweigh the drawbacks for most users.

The KitchenAid Artisan Series 5 Qt Tilt Head Stand Mixer is my favorite of the tilt head models. KitchenAid's website boasts the 5 quart models are large enough to make up to 9 (NINE) dozen cookies per batch. That may be true but I find this model struggles when it comes to dense doughs and batters if you max it out. That being said, this model comes in an array of beautiful colors and the accessories seem endless. Choose from hammered copper bowls to glass bowls and even painted ceramic bowls.

Bowl Lift Models: Pros and Cons

If you are considering purchasing a bowl lift KitchenAid stand mixer, there are a few additional factors to keep in mind that may affect your decision. Here are some things to consider:

  • Price: This type of mixer can be more expensive than other options, so be sure to factor in the cost when making your decision.

  • Accessories: KitchenAid mixers offer a wide range of attachments, from pasta makers to meat grinders, that can greatly expand the functionality of your mixer. Consider which attachments you may want to use and make sure they are compatible with the bowl lift 7 quart model. There are also fewer colors to choose from when you step up to the bowl lift models.

  • Counter space: As mentioned earlier, this type of mixer is quite large and heavy, so make sure you have enough counter space to accommodate it.

  • Noise: As mentioned earlier, this type of mixer is larger and has a more powerful motor than the tilt head model. For this reason it these stand mixers are quite loud and can make it almost impossible to hear the TV or Radio in an open or semi-open floorplan.

  • Intended use: If you plan on using your mixer primarily for small batches of dough or batter, a smaller model may be a better fit for your needs and budget. KitchenAid's website boasts the 7 quart models are large enough to make up to 14 (FOURTEEN) dozen cookies per batch

Ultimately, the bowl lift 7 quart KitchenAid stand mixer is a reliable and versatile choice for those who need a mixer that can handle large batches of ingredients. However, it's important to weigh the pros and cons and consider your specific needs before making a purchase.
